Button-front cardigans for women: short, long, and oversized

Button-front cardigans for women at SASSYCLASSY

The collection features button-front cardigans in fine-gauge, ribbed, and chunky knits, available in sizes XS through XL as well as combination sizes S/M and L/XL. The colors are muted and can be paired with other knitwear pieces.

The Button Placket

Depending on the style, the button placket runs all the way down to the hem or ends at the waist. When buttoned all the way up, the cardigan fits like a sweater; when left open, it falls straight over your outfit. On some styles, only the top buttons are fastened, leaving the hem open. Depending on the cardigan, the buttons are made of metal, have a mother-of-pearl finish, or are color-coordinated with the knit.

Cuts and Lengths

Short cardigans end at the waist and pair well with high-waisted pants and skirts. Longer styles extend past the hips and are usually worn open. There are also oversized versions with balloon sleeves and dropped shoulder seams, as well as sleeveless knit vests with a button placket.

Fine-Knit and Chunky-Knit

Fine-knit cardigans are thinner and can be worn under a coat. Chunky knit has more volume and is usually worn as an outer layer, often featuring a cable knit or ribbed texture. Fine knit is ideal for transitional weather, while chunky knit is best for winter.

Styling Cardigans with Buttons

When worn buttoned up, a cardigan replaces a sweater and pairs well with straight-leg pants or jeans. Worn open over a dress, the look remains more relaxed; a belt at the waist adds structure. Layer it over a long-sleeve top, a T-shirt, or a shirt with the collar peeking out above the waistline.

Material and Fit

Depending on the style, cardigans are made of cotton, viscose, or blends containing wool and alpaca. Straight cuts fit closer to the body, while oversized styles are significantly roomier. For combination sizes S/M and L/XL, it’s worth checking the size chart on the respective product page.

Care

Turn cardigans inside out and wash them buttoned up on a gentle cycle at 30 degrees; use wool detergent for styles containing wool. Washing them buttoned up prevents the button placket from warping. Lay the cardigan flat to dry; do not use a dryer.
